During a WiFi survey you walk through the building with measuring equipment. At each spot you measure how strong the signal is, how fast the connection is and whether there is interference from other networks. The result is a map of the building, showing at a glance where the WiFi is good and where it is not.
There are two kinds:
- In advance (predictive): based on the floor plan, you calculate where access points should go.
- On site: in the actual building, you measure how the network performs.
For an IT-Label, measurements are taken on site, preferably while the building is in use. Read more in Office WiFi.
What does this mean for the IT-Label?
Measuring is at the heart of the IT-Label. Performance is about measured performance under real load, not what is on paper. An on-site WiFi survey is an important part of that, together with measurements of the connection. See also access point, roaming and WiFi 6 and WiFi 7.
