Network monitoring: what is it?

Keeping a constant watch on a network, so problems are spotted before users are affected.

With network monitoring, software keeps an eye on the network day and night. Is every access point still working? Is the connection stable? Is a switch getting too hot? If something is out of the ordinary, the administrator gets an alert.

Without monitoring you only hear about a fault when a user calls. With monitoring the problem can often be solved before anyone is affected.

Continuous monitoring is part of the highest IT-Label level, IT1+ Premium.

What does this mean for the IT-Label?

Continuous monitoring is mentioned in the official description of IT1+ Premium. It falls under Infrastructure, of which network management is part. Monitoring also helps with Performance: problems are spotted before users are affected. See also access point and redundancy.
