The technical room (also called a server room or MER, main equipment room) houses the central equipment of the building network. The provider's connection often comes in here (the connection point) and the central patch cabinet is located here.
A good technical room is:
- cool: network equipment produces heat and fails sooner if it gets too hot;
- locked: only accessible to those who need to be there;
- dry and dust-free;
- large enough to add equipment later.
The IT-Label treats patch and server rooms as part of the infrastructure.
