The Internet of Things (IoT) is the umbrella term for devices that are connected to the network and collect or receive data themselves. In a building these include sensors that measure room occupancy, smart thermostats, lighting, access readers and cameras.
These devices make a Smart Building possible. But they also need attention. Many IoT devices are poorly secured. That is why they belong on their own, separate part of the network (see network segmentation).
What does this mean for the IT-Label?
IoT devices are the building blocks of the Smart Building component, and under Integration what counts is whether they work together and with the network. But they must also be set up securely, for example on their own part of the network. New devices are also subject to increasingly strict European security requirements (Cyber Resilience Act).
