Smart Building: what is it?

In a Smart Building, the building systems work together via the network. Sensors measure room occupancy. The climate adapts accordingly. Access passes, visitor registration, cameras and room booking are linked to each other.

That brings convenience for users, and often energy savings too. It does require a good and secure network (see network segmentation).

Smart Building is one of the six components of the IT-Label. A fully integrated Smart Building belongs to the highest level, IT1+. See also building management system and Internet of Things.

What does this mean for the IT-Label?

Smart Building is one of the six IT-Label components. It covers climate control, access control, camera security, visitor registration and reservation systems. In addition, the Integration component looks at whether those systems work together. IT1 has largely integrated solutions, IT1+ a fully integrated Smart Building.
